Night Sky, Southern Hemisphere

My recent trip to Australia was my first chance to have a play with taking night sky shots. My initial feeling was that this isn’t easy! Part of me felt my kit wasn’t up to it, but I had to get over that and just give it a go anyway. My mum lives literally in the middle of nowhere, in South West Victoria, near Cape Bridgewater….so with skies like that I couldn’t say no really.

These images are just my ‘dabblings’ into night time photography, but at least I think they give an impression of how ‘wow’ the stars are at this location….I hurt my neck staring up at the stars for so long! There’s something special about the Southern Cross that really reminds you that you are on the opposite side of the planet from home, the UK! It is such an Australian symbol, and seeing it always impresses me.
